WFS 2007 Conference Project

Hi Folks

the documents are now in the files and ARE eliminated from this page. I would hope that this is a conversation space and that we can put text materials into the files.

5 September Notes

It has been agreed that on Sat, 9 September the planning committee will meet from 1115-1315. We will decide if we are working through or over lunch as first order of business

It should be noted that we are NOT planning a conference but a small event space at the wfs2007. This could be a symposium for a half or full day to run concurrently with sessions, a preconference or post conference event, a reception etc. These can be in a variety of formats. But it is key that we can not appear to be trying to shape the conference as a whole.

Next it has already popped up in private exchanges that there will be a need for pre conf and conference support for the mnf effort which will involve a balance of time and money. Bright ideas are needed, but delivery is key and that will take time/money in some ratio. Futurists as a group are long on ideas but short on responsibility to take these into actionable AND actioned efforts. We must be careful that we only bite off what we can digest.

During our early conversations, there has been concern that the business sector has been neglected and thus their presence and fiscal resources have not been present at futurist events. Many sectors have been neglected, many of which also have fiscal resources as well as valuable ideas to contribute. We need to be concerned about being reactionary and defaulting to what might be the most obvious, on first blush.

Rog Rydberg:Draft Overview OVERVIEW As Futurists and members of the World Future Society, we are fully committed to our own personal lifelong learning. We are also dedicated to initiate community and business innovations that will lead to creating an attractive future for a good life for many future generations of humans on earth. We believe: 1. It is imperative that we involve multiple generations at the 2007 Convention (high school students, college students, working adults, and Senior Citizens) to harness the amazing enthusiasm, energy and wealth of life experiences and wisdom. 2. Sponsors of portions of the 2007 Convention will have a unique opportunity to educate their enterprises’ associates and to help in the education of high school students and college students on the critical importance of strategic thinking for the good of all humanity for today and many future generations. 3. An effective enterprise leader is a Futurist. 4. Leading an enterprise requires vision, a keen sense of potential future scenarios, and the ability to mobilize an organization to create the future in which your enterprise is the clear leader. 5. An effective leader is a Futurist who determines what might happen in the future, what probably will happen, and what the leader’s enterprise wants to make happen. 6. There are well established approaches for developing meaningful future scenarios, which will be shared at the July 26 – 30, 2007 World Futures Society International Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
